Solar Charge Your Mood
Our happy hormones run on solar power. Just like the solar panels on your house, our skin soaks up the rays and creates the chemicals in our body that are responsible for boosting our mood.

The simple act of standing in the sunlight for 15 minutes each day can do SO MUCH including:
  • Increasing vitamin D production
  • Helping you sleep better
  • Improving your mood
  • Strengthening bones
  • Lower blood pressure
What do you do when the sun isn't shining?
In the winter months when we have decreased sunlight, many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. Since we are not exposed to sunlight, our vitamin D and serotonin tend to decrease. There are a few options to turn your frown upside down.

Take a Vitamin D Supplement
Sunlight is the best source of vitamin D, but when you can't get it there, a supplement is your next best alternative.

 Use a Light Therapy Lamp
Using a light therapy lamp can be an effective treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Because individuals take in less natural light in winter compared to sunnier seasons, they experience a drop in serotonin, the “happy chemical” that naturally occurs in our bodies. This can make some people feel more drowsy and depressed. Light therapy lamps can provide feel-good natural lighting when it's not present in our environment.

Here is a good lamp that I recommend:

Using a lamp in the morning can also help you sleep better at night, as it helps balance our circadian rhythm, which also helps fight off fatigue and restlessness and leads to more productive days.

Channel your Inner Feline
If it's too cold outside to expose your skin to the sun, you can always hang out in the window. This is how my cat recharges daily. You can enjoy the sunlight on your skin while enjoying the warmth indoors.

Bottom line, life is about balance. Get in the sun, but too much can lead to sunburn and skin damage. 15 minutes is a good exposure to boost your good mood and get your daily DOSE!
